We Had A Breakthrough

This morning we did a little sight seeing to the Academy. According to our guide it is very famous for Guangzhou. As you can see we had a very sad little Sarah with us. She was quite sad and later only Daddy was allowed to hold her.
This is our guide Becky who keeps a close watch on us - here she is beside some of the very detailed pottery that they are still making today.
They also have some lovely gardens.
This is some of the extraordinary ivory carvings - the ivory carvings are not allowed to leave Beijing - you can however, buy carvings from camel or cow bone.
Since Sarah was not happy we didn't spend too much time there but Becky was able to get this nice picture by the gardens for us.
And here we are on the way back to the hotel - still not too happy.
Then came lunch in the hotel room. She seemed to like sitting at a table and today at breakfast she was feeding herself some fruit so we brought some back to our room for lunch. She wanted to try to use the spoon at breakfast so I gave her a fork to try at lunch - she seemed to really enjoy trying to feed herself and was able to - sometimes with help - stab the food.

I managed to get a short video of Sarah using her fork - really cute.

And then the breakthrough - we were playing with her food and clapping and we got a smile - then with some more playing we got a laugh. I managed to get this picture as Wes was out getting our lunch - so the picture is a little fuzzy.

When Wes came back we were able to get this short video of Sarah smiling and laughing. Its hard to tell who was happier - Sarah or us.

Tomorrow morning we head back to Beijing - we hope that Sarah doesn't mind the flight but luckily it's a fairly short flight - Becky is dropping us off at the airport and we are being met and picked up in Beijing. They really don't seem to take any chances on loosing you.

  1. What a treat for you to see smiles and hear giggles! It's a tough transition for the little ones but Sarah seems to be realizing that these people who are loving her are wonderful. Hey Sarah...at least you won't have to eat many veggies! Bonus!! :o)
