She's Here

Well Sarah's here and she is beautiful and is already good as gold. The Government office was very busy - Mondays are their busiest days and it was filled with people and crying babies. Sarah wasn't there right away but Becky our guide takes good care of us and seems to be an old pro at this. The director seemed to be a very nice man and they actually held Sarah by the hand and walked her over to us. He even told us through Becky that she is very beautiful. The girl kneeling beside me is Becky, our guide. As you can see there are a lot of people and Sarah seemed very overwhelmed by the whole thing - her eyes were welled up the entire time but she didn't cry - when tears got higher we gave her Cheerios's and she seemed to calm down but was still on the verge of a big cry.
After a few minutes we thought it safe to pick her up and she didn't seem to mind - just was watching everything like a hawk. I then made the mistake and asked Wes if he wanted to hold her and he, of course did.

What I didn't know was that I wasn't going to get her back.

As you can see - we were very happy but Sarah was very, very sad - she was also a very, very brave little girl and didn't cry at all - but she wasn't going to stop being very, very sad.

Here we are in the van on the way back to the hotel - notice I still haven't got Sarah back and she is still very, very sad - but has no problems accepting the Cheerios's

Finally, I got to hold her again - we had to send Wes on an errand to get some photocopies

But you can see that it didn't take long for him to get her back again. At this point she was watching both of us like a hawk.

The only time we got some real crying was when we put her down to take off some of her clothes - she had 5 layers of tops on and tights under her overalls - I put her down on the bed to start to take off the overalls and that's when we got the first big cry - I had to pick her up and Becky had to finish getting the overalls off while I held her - apparently one of us - it didn't matter to her which one of us it was, as long as it was one of us holding her. She was obviously very tired but we couldn't lay her down or put her down without her crying - so we tried the sneaky tactic of sitting her on the bed and Wes put his arms around her like she was still on his knee and then she was okay to play with the cups. She was funny with them - if Wes picked one up and held it in his hand - she would take it away from him without a word or a look, just took it and set it back down on the bed. Also, when she would start crying again we gave her a bottle with water and she would drink a lot of water then she would be okay again.

We went to the hotel restaurant and Becky ordered for us before she left - they really do take excellent care of you. We took Sarah along a book and her Cheerios's and one of her cups - she was so tired that she really couldn't eat. She had bit but the last mouthful she would just leave in her mouth and when we offered her more food she would open her mouth but because it was still full - we didn't put any in - she would chew a bit then stop and just sit at the table watching everything going on but too tired to finish chewing and swallow. Eventually, we just got her to spit it out. The restaurant staff were also taken with her and kept waving and coming over to see her. When we left they all waved goodbye to her. She was good as gold at the restaurant - just sat quietly playing with her book. When we got back to the room we changed her diaper because it was soaked from the two bottles of water she had and put a new one on with her jammies - then Wes went out to pick us up a few things and I turned out most of the lights and sat down on the chair with her lying on front of me with the blanket over her and she went out like a light. When Wes came back we put her in the crib and she hasn't moved since. A perfect little angle.

Hopefully she will have a better day tomorrow and not be quite as sad.
