Yesterday we had to go back to the Government office where we picked up Sarah to register and finalize the adoption. Our guide Becky had us up early to get there before the big line ups started but there were a number of people
already there when we got there. Wes and I haven't changed over the times very well and are waking up early. We got up before Sarah and both had our showers and then were able to give her a bath and get her hair washed. She seemed to really enjoy her bath and played with her cups. We had a good breakfast and Sarah ate a lot of food which we were very pleased about. The funny thing was that when we change her diaper she likes to hold the diaper cream tub and the small baby powder bottle. She gets really attached to the diaper cream tub and took it to breakfast with her.
Luckily it's in
English so I don't think anyone realized what we had sitting on the table. I was a little worried when I realized that we were going back to the same offices as it wasn't a good place yesterday for Sarah but she seemed to be okay - although she is still very sad. Our guide took our picture then kept on top of all the rooms we had to visit so we got through everything as quickly as possible.
Everyone thought Sarah looked beautiful in her fancy dress - we thought so too. Afterwards Becky took us shopping - it's colder hear than we thought and as we left all Sarah's warm clothes in Beijing we tried to buy some but they have
their summer clothes out and no winter ones - so we are just going to layer for now. The afternoon was very trying for everyone. Sarah has been so good but very sad. We put her down for a nap but after an hour she woke up startled and cried and cried. The she started the heart wrenching sobs - well now Mommy was crying and Daddy didn't know what to do with the two of us since he really is uncomfortable around leaking women. I only had the one crying session that Sarah and I shared but Sarah had a very long afternoon and evening. We ordered in room service for her - they made some
congee special and we were able to give her some dinner. We tried to give her another bath since she seemed to enjoy her morning bath before bed - we bought some bubble bath, but she really didn't like the bubbles so that was short bath. She went to bed earl and slept
through the night, about 10 hours. When she woke up she she was sad again and started crying. She wants you to hold her and then we try a bottle or a distraction and she calms down for a while. She really likes walking so Wes has been walking the halls with her while I get some stuff done in the room then I join them. She didn't eat as much breakfast this morning and she didn't like her bath even without bubbles - another short bath and we didn't get her hair washed - oh well, we will get it tomorrow - it's still shining like crazy today anyway. We did have a two hour breakfast this morning as she still wasn't happy and preferred to play with her book than eat - we spend our time running up and down to the buffet trying to see what she will like. Sarah has a good system going if she doesn't like it she will hold it in her mouth and not eat it - we tried to wash it down with apple juice but she just packs it between her front lip and teeth so she can drink and not eat it (is she smart or what) now she just holds it and looks at us and we put a napkin up to her mouth and she spits it out - goes back to her book until we find something she likes. We just have to get her passport done this afternoon - unfortunately it's during her nap time so we may have more problems tonight - we have arranged with the restaurant in the hotel for dinner - she liked some noodles this morning and if we need to - they wrote down our room # to tell room service what they are if we don't make to the restaurant for dinner - they are
sooooooo helpful here. Wes has Sarah
cruising down in the shops in the lobby so I could update the blog - but I think I'll sign off now and join them.
Wonderful post. Sarah is so smart with the food, etc. Keep the faith. Soon she will smiling and laughing.
ReplyDeleteSarah is officially your daughter!!! SO happy for you!
ReplyDeletesorry to hear that Sarah is having such a rough transition and yet we both know it's a good thing in the long run. They say the 72 hour mark is often the turning point so hopefully she'll be feeling better within the next couple of days. Poor little lamb is so confused but it looks like her negotiating skills work as she already has daddy wrapped around her little finger and fetching everything she wants. :o)
Congrats friends! So happy for you!
bless her little heart!
